Meeting Description:
The Hispanic Studies Graduate Student Organization (HSGSO) of the Department of Hispanic Studies at the University of Houston cordially invites abstract submissions to the Second Annual conference in Hispanic Studies, New Academic (Re)visions, to be held on April 22, 2016.
The conference will focus primarily on the exploration of innovative approaches to the study of Hispanic literature and linguistics, with the objective of recovering contributions and other aspects of these disciplines that have traditionally been underrepresented or overlooked and establish new interdisciplinary dialogues.
The conference will emphasize, but is not limited to, the following topics:
Linguistics
- Bilingualism and multilingualism
- Second language teaching and acquisition
- Heritage language teaching and acquisition
- Language for specific purposes
- Language contact, variation and change
- Language and identity
Literature
- Race, gender and ethnicity
- Transnationalism
- Feminism and its intersectionalities
- Queer discourse
- Sociocultural tensions
- Immigration and exile
- Inequality and violence
- Activism and resistance

Call for Papers:
We invite submissions from interdisciplinary perspectives written in Spanish or English.
- Call Deadline: December 20, 2015
- Notification of Acceptance: January 7, 2016
- Abstract Submission: Authors are asked to submit their abstracts (max. 250 words) to the address hsgso at uh.edu. Presentations will be 20 minutes long followed by a 10 minute question period.
