Meeting Description:

A conglomerate of about a hundred and fifty Austro-Asiatic languages with
about sixty five million speakers are found scattered across South and
Southeast Asia and parts of India. Ethnically and culturally diverse and
distinct, the various linguistic communities with their respective dialects
and language varieties belonging to this stock have sparked a great concern of
interest to language experts, language researchers and linguists where areas
of research on documentation, preservation and promotion have emerged out as
strong areas of research. Another major concern of many linguists working on
these languages is the classification of these varieties of languages.
Classifications made by Diffloth (2005) and Sidwell (2009) have brought light
to many varieties that were left unclassified for a long time. However, many
languages are yet to be worked on and classified and the final classification
is yet to be established. Other important issues emerging out of the
diversity, interrelationships and contact situations of language and culture
in the South and South-east Asian sociolinguistic area, issues that can be
studied from the ecolinguistic perspective, will also be the major concerns of
the conference.

It is just the right time to give these languages a just treatment and focus
on the issues concerning its various linguistic aspects spanning from the
writing system to theoretical perspectives. Therefore, this conference aims at
bringing together the interactive minds of young researchers, scholars, and
linguists across whose works have been on this particular language family.

The issues of concern to be tackled through paper presentations and
brainstorming interactive sessions will include, but not be limited to, the
following areas:

1. Phonetics and Phonology of AA languages
2. Morphology of AA languages
3. Morpho-syntax of AA languages

10. Historical Linguistics/ Comparative Linguistics in AA languages
11. Origin and Patterns of Migration of Indigenous AA Speech Communities
12. Pattern of Language choice, language maintenance, shift, and endangerment
within AA languages
13. Gender and discourse of South East AA Languages
