Call for Papers
2017 Best Paper Award
Based on Recent Dissertation Research
The Journal of Second Language Pronunciation (JSLP) invites submissions for
Best Paper based on recent dissertation work (2015-2016) on Second Language
Pronunciation. The Journal of Second Language Pronunciation is a scholarly
journal devoted to research into the acquisition, perception, production,
teaching, assessment, and description of prosodic and segmental pronunciation
of second languages in all contexts of learning. The journal encourages
research that connects theory and practice, enhances understanding of L2
phonological learning processes, and provides connections between L2
pronunciation and other areas of applied linguistics such as pragmatics, CALL,
and speech perception.
The competition is open to all recent doctorates or advanced doctoral students
whose paper or dissertation was undertaken or completed in calendar years 2015
and 2016.
Papers for the award should not yet be published or undergoing review in any
other venue. They should present original, theoretically engaged research,
with analysis supported by a review of relevant empirical literature. The
submission must be directly related to a dissertation on second language
pronunciation. A note from the thesis/dissertation supervisor or an
appropriate committee member supporting the submission and briefly outlining
the place/nature of the paper within the field of second language
pronunciation must also be submitted. This note should be sent to the editor
at JournalSLP at gmail.com
Papers should be submitted in the form of an article potentially publishable
in the journal. Each paper will be evaluated by the JSLP Editor and the
journal's Editorial Advisory Board. The title page should indicate that the
paper is intended for the Best Paper Award.
The winner will also receive a one-year subscription to JSLP. Those writers
that do not win the Best Paper Award may be invited to submit their paper
through the normal refereed process, potentially leading to publication in
JSLP.
Assessment criteria will include relevance to the mandate of the journal,
originality and significance of the research, the currency of references,
paper length within the guidelines of the journal, and quality of the writing.
Authors should refer to the JSLP Guidelines when preparing their manuscripts.
The Best Paper will be published in Volume 4, Issue 1 (2018) of JSLP.
Submission deadline: April 1, 2017 using the JSLP submission system at
https://benjamins.com/#catalog/journals/jslp/submission
