Meeting Description:
30/03/2016 (16:00-18:00)
Institute of Modern Languages Research, Room 243 (Senate House, WC1E 7HU)
King’s College Camões Centre and the Institute of Modern Languages Research
organise a workshop on the Portuguese Language. The linguists Esperança
Cardeira and Alina Villalva, researchers at the University of Lisbon, are the
invited speakers.
Colour naming processes from a cross-linguistic approach
The workshop explores colour naming processes on a cross-linguistic approach,
in order to trace relevant linguistic issues and interesting interconnections
to other scientific domains.
The session is led by Alina Villalva and Esperança Cardeira (University of
Lisbon), currently working on a prototype of a dictionary for the root of
simple words and their derivatives. Testing will concern a subset of the
lexicon that includes emotion and colour words, since they both refer to
personal synaesthetic experiences that engender obviously common naming
issues.
We encourage contributions from a wide range of fields such as lexicology,
lexicography, comparative linguistics (especially from a Pan-European
perspective), morphology, historical linguistics and cultural studies.
Interdisciplinary proposals concerned with the perception, understanding and
use of colour related to colour words are also welcome.
This event is open to all and free to attend, but registration is required:
