Meeting Description:
Round Table
Announcing the first ever gathering for scholars interested Linear Unit
Grammar. It is now 10 years since Sinclair and Mauranen published their
groundbreaking book of the same name. Since then, there has been a groundswell
of interest manifesting in publications, conference presentations, and many
citations.
On Mar 9 - 10, 2016, the Department of English and American Studies, Faculty
of Arts, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic is holding two days of
workshops, seminars, roundtable discussions.
It is intended as a platform for the cross-fertilisation of work and thinking
about the application of Linear Unit Grammar to studies in both spoken and
written language per se, as well as academic language, syntax, chunking, genre
variation, native and non-native speaker language, etc.
At the moment, we are very pleased to announce that Prof. Anna Mauranen will
be leading the sessions. Two others who are working with Linear Unit Grammar
will also be presenting their work, namely Gerard O’Grady (Cardiff) and
Cameron Smart (HK).
Anyone interested in the topic is welcome to contact the convenor with offers,
suggestions and queries. The Workshop has a fledgling website at
http://bit.ly/linearug, which includes a contact form.
