Meeting Description:

The conference will focus on pluricentric/pluriareal Languages in their
complex linguistic and socio-linguistic contexts from the perspective of
variationist linguistics, language contact studies, perceptionist linguistics
and studies into language attitudes. A special emphasis will be placed on
varieties of the German language in Austria. Consideration will be made for
synchronic and diachronic variation at all linguistic levels and with regard
to all varieties of languages as well as their contact languages.

In addition, the conference will highlight contributions from the field of
''Digital Humanities'' that have as their research object the collection and
preparation of linguistic data about the topic.

The conference seeks to foster the exchange of ideas among a broad and
international audience and to create a space for the discussion of a wide
variety of theoretical and empirical approaches to pluricentricity and
pluriareality.

The conference is organised by the German Studies Department (Universität
Wien), the Department for Slavic Studies (Universität Wien), the Centre for
Translation Studies (Universität Wien) and the Research Group Corpus-based
Linguistic Research of the Institute for Corpus Linguistics und Text
Technology (Austrian Academie of Sciences).

2nd Call for Papers: 

In accordance with the conference topic, submissions are encouraged to focus
on research
into the following aspects and fields:

- Language variation within the framework of variationist linguistics and
interactional
sociolinguistics
- Language variation, attitudes and perception of pluricentric languages and
their varieties
- Language variation within the German language area
- Language variation and linguistic ethnography
- Language variation, attitudes and perception within multilingual settings
- Language variation, attitudes and perception within urban settings
- Language variation and language contact
- Sociolinguistic variation in time

If you would like to give a talk or present a POSTER, we kindly ask you to 
submit an
abstract of between 1,500 (minimum) and 2,000 (maximum) characters by 31
January
