Description:
The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics in the College of
Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University, in collaboration with the New York
Six Liberal Arts Consortium, invites applications for a full-time, three-year,
non-tenure track appointment as Lecturer in Hindi/Urdu beginning August 22,
2016.
The successful candidate will teach three 4-credit lower division language
courses each semester. At least one course per semester will be through a
synchronous video connection to students not at the Syracuse campus. The
candidate should have knowledge of online teaching and learning technologies,
including managing live face-to-face online classes, creating additional video
and audio resources, and hosting online office hours. Additional
administrative duties, as assigned by the Department Chair, include, but not
limited to, placement exam administration, professional development
participation, advising, and committee service.
Required qualifications include Ph.D. in related field, experience in
university-level Hindi instruction, and native or near-native fluency in
Hindi. Experience with instructional technology is preferred. Preference is
given to candidates with a strong interest in language teaching and a
commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence.
The candidate should have knowledge of online teaching and learning
technologies, including managing live face-to-face online classes, creating
additional video and audio resources, and hosting online office hours. Also,
s/he should be available and able to create curriculum during the summer
months to begin use for the fall 2016 semester. Salary is competitive.
