Description:
The post is a full-time position as lecturer in the tenure track system, in
the Department of Translation, Interpreting and Communication, with duties
including academic teaching, academic research and carrying out academic
services in the discipline of Applied Language Studies, specialised in Dutch
as a foreign language (NT2). Candidates:
- Should hold a PhD
- Are required to have at least two years of postdoctoral experience at the
time of appointment
- Master standard Dutch (written/spoken) perfectly
- Have high-level academic research experience in the field of (applied)
language studies, which can be corroborated by recent publications in national
and international academic journals and/or books that are widely distributed
and that rely on experts for the evaluation of submitted papers;
- Should have demonstrable expertise in research into Dutch as a foreign
language in line with the department’s research into foreign language
acquisition and didactics
- Should possess the necessary didactic skills to help university students
develop academic competences
- Have practical teaching experience at academic level, preferably of Dutch as
a foreign language
In addition:
- Being internationally mobile, inter alia by taking part in research
programmes at research institutions not linked to the university where the
highest degree was obtained, will be considered an asset
- Active participation in international academic conferences and international
(research) networks is recommended
- Having positively evaluated experience in offering and/or organising
academic training is recommended
- Involvement in the professionalization of education will be considered an
asset
The application must be accompanied by the following documents:
- An outline (1500 words maximum) in which the applicant explains his/her
views on research, education and scientific services in relation to this
vacancy
- A research proposal (1500 words maximum) about the research within NT2 which
the applicant wishes to conduct, in line with the research group GOLLD
(http://www.golld.ugent.be ; http://www.intercomm.ugent.be ;
http://www.lt3.ugent.be), INTERCOMM () or LT3 (). The research proposal should
at least describe: background; objectives/questions; method; expected results
and feasibility
- The required transcripts (copies of qualifications)
- A portfolio with additional information about any additional teaching
competences
The selection procedure is in two stages:
1. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their CVs, publications and
submitted outlines; all the shortlisted candidates will be invited for a trial
lesson and interview;
2. On the basis of all the collated information, it will be decided which
candidates will move on to the next stage and a running order will be
established.
