Meeting Description:

The conference is dedicated to natural language, more precisely: its
inevitably heterogeneous nature seen from the perspective of variationist
linguistics and text linguistics. This conference for young scientists will be
focusing mainly on the German language, but papers on other languages are
appreciated as well.

Recent studies show several interfaces and matches between both linguistics'
sub-disciplines. Actual use of language, corpus construction and data
retrieval, situational-functional and stylistic-contextual questions,
comparison of prescriptive norms, and actual language behavior, as well as
references to the prototype theory are of interest to both disciplines. All
language-internal phenomena of language that correlate with extra-linguistic
factors will be discussed open for discussion in the workshop (user- and
usage-based).

Special attention will be given to text variation / variation in the text – be
it grammatical, or lexical. Papers focusing on parallels between variationist
and text linguistic approaches will be of particular interest at this
conference. Presentations showing (preliminary) results (especially
dissertations and habilitations in their early stage) are much appreciated, as
well as methodological contributions on elicitation and data analysis.

The main goal of the conference is to assemble young researchers out of the
field of variationist and text linguistics and to create a platform for
scientific exchange and future cooperation. It is an excellent opportunity for
young researchers in both linguistic fields to get acquainted with intra- and
interdisciplinary approaches and may lead to a clarification and
intensification of the topic they work on and its leading questions.

Call for Papers: 

Thematik:
Die Tagung fokussiert (natürliche) Sprache(n), genauer: ihren (unweigerlich)
heterogenen Charakter und eine damit einhergehende Fülle von sprachlichen
Realisierungs- und Umsetzungsmöglichkeiten, und zwar aus den Perspektiven der
Variations- und Textlinguistik. 

Beide Disziplinen erfassen verschiedene Aspekte sprachlicher Vielfalt, für die
mit spezifischen Schwerpunkten, Methoden und Zielsetzungen Korrelationen und
Erklärungen gesucht werden. In der jüngeren Forschung lassen sich mehrere
Schnittstellen zwischen beiden Bereichen finden. Dazu gehören die Fokussierung
auf den tatsächlichen je nach Ort, Situation, Intention, Medium usw.
variierenden Sprachgebrauch (auch aus sprachgeschichtlicher Perspektive), die
Erstellung und Auswertung von Korpora, situativ-funktionale und
stilistisch-kontextuelle Fragestellungen, die Gegenüberstellung von Soll- und
Ist-Normen sowie der Bezug auf die Prototypentheorie. 

Anwendungsbezüge sind vielfältig und betreffen Übersetzung(swissenschaft)
inkl. innersprachlicher Adressatenorientierung (Fachsprachen und
Popularisierung) und Textoptimierung, Sprachtechnologie, mutter- und
fremdsprachlicher Unterricht, Sprachkultivierung usw.

In der Tagung wird der Textvariation/Variation im Text (sei es der
grammatischen, lexikalischen oder formal-strukturellen) besondere
Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet. Beiträge, die die Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen
variations- und textlinguistischen Ansätzen thematisieren, sind für die Tagung
von besonderem Interesse. Selbstverständlich sind aber Präsentationen, die
zwar weniger auf die Interdisziplinarität ausgerichtet sind, sich allerdings
explizit entweder variations- oder textlinguistischen Fragestellungen widmen,
ebenso willkommen.

TeilnehmerInnen:
Die Tagung richtet sich an JungwissenschaftlerInnen, die gerade ihre
Dissertationsprojekte zu den Themen der Veranstaltung durchführen bzw. diese
vor kurzem (sprich spätestens vor zwei Jahren) abgeschlossen haben. Die Anzahl
der TeilnehmerInnen ist auf 20 begrenzt. Alle an der Tagung teilhabenden
Personen müssen einen wissenschaftlichen Beitrag leisten, und zwar entweder in
Form eines Vortrags oder eines Posters.

Arten von Beiträgen:
Vortrag
Vorträge dauern jeweils 25 Min., an die sich eine Kurzdiskussion (5 Min.)
anschließt. Nach einem Vortragsblock von zwei Präsentationen findet eine
umfangreichere Diskussion (30 Min.) statt.

Poster
Poster im Format A0 (Hochformat) werden im Rahmen einer Postersession (60
Min.) vorgestellt. Ihren AutorInnen stehen für die Präsentation jeweils 5 Min.
zur Verfügung. Im Anschluss daran findet eine umfangreichere Diskussion (30
Min.) statt.

Abfassung und Einreichung der Abstracts:
Für die Verwaltung wird das ConfTool (Link dazu auf der Tagungshomepage)
eingesetzt. Hier ist ein individuelles Benutzerkonto einzurichten, über das
die Beitragsvorschläge eingereicht werden. Sie müssen in vollständig
anonymisierter Form verfasst werden und den Umfang von max. 3.000 Zeichen
(inkl. Leerzeichen) nicht überschreiten und keine Literaturangaben beinhalten.
Hingegen ist von besonderer Relevanz, dass die Forschungsfrage (und deren
Originalität), die Methodologie und das Ziel (ggf. die wichtigsten Resultate)
der zu präsentierenden Arbeit aus ihnen klar hervorgehen.
