Meeting Description:

We are delighted to welcome you to the first Pacific Symposium on Teaching and
Learning – PASTEL 2016, which will be held at the lovely New Hiroden Hotel in
Hiroshima, Japan. The New Hiroden is only a short walk from Hiroshima Station.

The main session days will be on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2
with closing sessions and remarks on Monday, October 3 followed by an optional
tour to Hiroshima’s two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Peace Park and the
floating shrine of Miyajima at Itsukushima.

Today’s teaching challenges require a holistic perspective that embraces the
critical relationship between the teacher and the learner. The primary purpose
of this symposium is to provide an intimate platform for discussing both the
challenging problems in teaching as well as innovative techniques and
solutions.

With the theme Impact and Progress, PASTEL 2016 is an international,
peer-reviewed engagement for educators, academics, researchers, students and
others who desire to improve teaching quality, student engagement and access
to education. Participants will have an opportunity to showcase research,
connect with other educators, learn about key issues and explore the culture
and history of Hiroshima!

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Indiana University and
as such can receive donations through Indiana University Foundation. We
also collect donations via eLinguistics Foundation, a registered 501(c)
Non Profit organization with the federal tax number 45-4211155. Either
way, the donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your
state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the
IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that
they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization.
Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department
and sending us a form that the Indiana University Foundation fills in
and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative
procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
