Description:

The Faculty of Arts and Philosophy has a vacancy for a lectureship, starting
from 1 October 2016. The post is a full-time  position as lecturer in the
tenure track system, in the Department of Translation, Interpreting and
Communication, with duties including academic teaching, academic research and
carrying out academic services in the discipline of Applied Language Studies
(Italian).

Profile

Candidates:

- Should hold a PhD;
- Are required to have at least two years of postdoctoral experience at the
time of appointment;
- Master Italian at C2 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework) or as a
native speaker;
- Have high-level academic research experience in the field of applied
language studies, which can be corroborated by recent publications in national
and international academic journals and/or books that are widely distributed
and that rely on experts for the evaluation of submitted papers/manuscripts;
- Should have demonstrable expertise in the department’s research fields,
namely multilingual communication, translation and interpreting research or
language/translation didactics applied to Italian;
- Should possess the necessary didactic skills to help university students
develop academic competences;
- Should be able to demonstrate experience in teaching Italian at an academic
level, with Italian as the language of instruction;

In addition:

- The active participation in international academic conferences and
international (research) networks is recommended;

The application must be accompanied by the following documents:

- An outline (1,500 words maximum) in which the applicant explains his/her
views on research, education and scientific services in relation to this
vacancy;
- A research proposal (1,500 words maximum) about the research the applicant
wishes to conduct in the field of intercultural or multilingual communication
(see InterComm: http://www.intercomm.ugent.be), in translation or interpreting
studies (see EQTIS: http://www.eqtis.ugent.be and TRACE:
http://www.trace.ugent.be) or in language and/or translation didactics (see
GOLLD: http://www.golld.ugent.be). The research proposal should at least
describe background; objectives/questions; methodology; expected results and
feasibility;
- The required transcripts/certificates (copies of qualifications);
- A portfolio with additional information about any additional teaching
competences.

The selection procedure consists of two stages:

1. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their CVs, publications and
submitted outlines and proposals; all the shortlisted candidates will be
invited for a trial lesson and interview;
2. On the basis of all the collated information, a final shortlist of eligible
candidates will be drawn up and a running order will be established.

- Having positively evaluated experience in offering and/or organising
academic training is recommended;
- Involvement in the professionalization of education will be considered an
asset;
- Having a command of the Dutch language will be considered an asset;
