Description:

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences/Department of Language, Literature and

The doctoral study programme comprises 240 higher education credits, including

Eligibility and Assessment Criteria

Applicants to doctoral studies must meet the general admission requirements as
well as the specific eligibility requirements and be judged to have the
ability otherwise required to pursue the programme successfully.

A person who has earned a Master’s degree of at least 240 higher education
credits of which at least 60 higher education credits are studies at Master’s
level, or who in some other way in the country or abroad has acquired largely
equivalent knowledge has general eligibility for admission.

Specific eligibility requirements are at least 30 higher education credits in
English language and literature at Master’s level, including an independent
degree project 15 higher education credits. The Master level degree project
may be related to other fields than English linguistics, but normally it is
easier for an applicant to demonstrate ability to be successful in a given
field if the submitted Master degree project is in the same field as the
proposed research specialisation. A person who has acquired equivalent
knowledge abroad also has specific eligibility.

Applicants are assessed and ranked on the basis of their previous studies,
with special emphasis on the quality of their submitted independent
research-related works, especially at Master level, and their command of
English in speech and writing.

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Indiana University and
as such can receive donations through Indiana University Foundation. We
also collect donations via eLinguistics Foundation, a registered 501(c)
Non Profit organization with the federal tax number 45-4211155. Either
way, the donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your
state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the
IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that
they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization.
Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department
and sending us a form that the Indiana University Foundation fills in
and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative
procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.

Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
