Call Deadline: 01-Dec-2016
Meeting Description:
The panel on Endangered Languages and Historical Linguistics at ICHL23 focuses
on the role that contemporary initiatives in language documentation are
playing in enriching our understanding of language change and language
relationships, and considers the exciting future prospects for the field in
light of this evolving partnership. The day-long panel will involve seven
distinguished specialists, four plenary discussants, and six graduate student
and/or post-doctoral participants, and will take place on August 3, 2017.
Further information will appear soon on the ICHL 23 website,
http://ichl23.utsa.edu/.
2nd Call for Papers:
We invite graduate students and post-doctoral scholars to submit applications
for participation in a panel on Endangered Languages and Historical
Linguistics, which will take place within the 23rd International Conference on
Historical Linguistics in San Antonio, Texas (July 31-August 4, 2017).
The students/post-doctoral scholars selected for the panel will present their
own work in the form of a fifteen-minute presentation and associated poster
within the context of the panel, will participate in the panel discussions,
and will have the opportunity to interact closely with the other panel
participants throughout the day. The six student/post-doctoral participants
will receive funding for all conference-related expenses, including travel,
registration, lodging, and per diem for the duration of the ICHL meeting.
Applications should include an abstract of the poster/presentation, a CV, and
a letter of reference from a faculty supervisor. Abstract submissions should
be a maximum of two pages in length, including references; these should draw
on original research and should emphasize the contributions that the study of
endangered and less-studied languages are making to the field of historical
linguistics. Priority in the selection process will be given to applicants who
are themselves native speakers of endangered languages.
Graduate students and post-docs interested in applying for inclusion in the
Endangered Languages and Historical Linguistics Panel should submit
application materials by email to ichl23 at utsa.edu by December 1. Please
include ‘Endangered Languages and Historical Linguistics Application’ in the
subject line. Abstracts submitted to this panel but not accepted for it will
be automatically considered as a paper for inclusion in the general session.
We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of the National Science
Foundation for its funding of the Endangered Languages and Historical
Linguistics Panel.
If you have any questions, please contact conference organizer Bridget Drinka
at ichl23 at utsa.edu or
