Meeting Description:

We are pleased to announce that the First Symposium on Linguistic Approaches
to Dialects in English Literature (1500-1950) (LADEL) will be held at the
University of Salamanca on 26-27 October 2017.

This is one of the academic activities that have been scheduled to celebrate
the 65th anniversary of the Department of English Philology, the first to
offer a degree in Anglo-American Studies in Spain. The Symposium aims to bring
together international scholars so that they can discuss different linguistic
approaches to the literary representation of older varieties of English (in
Britain and overseas), a field which has received renewed scholarly attention
over the past few years. We expect that the Symposium may serve as a forum
for linguists working in this particular sub-discipline so that they can meet,
exchange and learn about other methods and approaches that might actually
inform their current work.

The following plenary speakers have already confirmed their participation:

- Prof. Joan C. Beal (University of Sheffield)
- Prof. Marina Dossena (Università degli studi di Bergamo)

Call for Papers:

We welcome proposals for papers (20-minute presentation + 10-minute
discussion) that deal with, but are not restricted to, the following list of
topics and  approaches:

- Dialects, literature and spelling;
- Dialects, literature and phonology;
- Dialects, literature and morphosyntax;
- Dialects, literature and lexis;
- Dialects, literature and enregisterment;
- Dialects, literature and lexicography;
- Dialects, literature and historical (socio-)stylistics;
- Dialects, literature and corpus compilation.

We particularly encourage papers based on The Salamanca Corpus: A Digital
Archive of English Dialect Texts.

Proposals must submitted by 15 March 2017 as anonymous Word or pdf documents
via EasyAbs at http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/ladel17. In case your proposal
contains any special characters, do please send your abstract as a .pdf

Notification of acceptance will be sent out by 20 April 2017.
