Description:
MAGDALEN VERNON PHD STUDENTSHIPS 2017
The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences is delighted to invite
applications for three fully funded PhD Studentships in research projects
aligned with the expertise of one of our three Research Divisions:
Psychopathology & Affective Neuroscience; Language Development and Ageing; and
Perception, Cognition & Nutrition. One will be awarded in the Language
Development and Ageing Research division which houses an extremely productive
group of researchers studying language acquisition, psycholinguistics,
neurolinguistics, language and cognition, health sciences in ageing
populations as well as clinical language sciences. The School houses two
research institutes; the Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism (CeLM) and
the Centre for Neuroscience and Neurodynamics (CINN) as well as in-house
clinics focusing on Speech and Language Therapy, Memory (Dementia) and Autism.
Our labs are equipped with state of the art technology, to which the
successful applicant would have direct access including eye-tracking (visual
world and reading), EEG/ERP, TMS, MRI and more.
The studentships are named in honour of Professor Magdalen Vernon (1901-1991),
who was the first female Head of the then Department of Psychology at the
University of Reading, and a founding member of the Experimental Psychology
Society.
Each three-year studentships covers fees at the UK/EU rate and a maintenance
stipend of £14,496. International students are welcome to apply but must be
able to pay the difference between UK/EU fees and international fees.
Applications are especially welcomed from female applicants. We also welcome
applications for part-time and flexible working.
Please contact Professor Jason Rothman and/or Professor Judith Ellis to make
initial contact. Potential students are strongly encouraged to be in contact
after the initial contact with any staff member with whom they wish to conduct
their doctoral research.
