Meeting Description:
In many ways, language education is an endeavour to cross borders. In the most
obvious sense, it involves crossing the borders separating linguistic
communities. In a different sense, it involves crossing the borders between
the various disciplines that inform the profession. It also involves crossing
the practitioner – theoretical divide. This conference aims to bring together
language teachers, researchers and scholars to discuss the various boundaries
that they cross regularly in the contexts of their work, and to reflect on
their permeability.
Academic Programme:
We are pleased to announce that plenary presentations will be delivered by:
- Michael Hoey
- Claire Kramsch
- Amos Paran
- Barbara Seidlhofer
- Janez Skela
- Penny Ur
Call for Papers:
We would like to invite proposals for individual papers (20 minutes, followed
by a 10-minute discussion), symposia (90 minutes), workshops (90 minutes), and
posters focusing on the theme of borders in language education. Submissions
can have a theoretical, empirical and/or practical focus. Submissions that
make connections between the domains are particularly welcome. The conference
intends to address issues applicable to all foreign language teaching and
learning. A non-exhaustive list of possible topics includes:
- Applied Linguistics
- Assessment and Feedback
- Bilingual Education
- Content and Language Integrated Learning
- Cross-curricular Learning
- E-learning
- English as a Lingua Franca
- Inclusive Education
- Intercultural Learning

encouraged.
i. For individual papers and posters, authors should submit an anonymous
abstract (200 words max., including any references)
ii. For symposia, please submit an anonymous abstract (500 words, including
