Focus: This workshop will focus on Indo-Aryan languages and will exert special emphasis on the Western Indo-Aryan languages like Marathi, Gujarati, Kutchi, Konkani, Sindhi, Punjabi among others.
Many of these languages have not been adequately described in the light of latest theoretical developments and tool-kits of Modern Linguistics. Detailed description of phenomena in these languages may also challenge the existing linguistic theories and lead to further theorization.
Minimum Education Level: Undergraduate
Special Qualifications:
Students/faculty with or currently pursuing MA (Linguistics), M.Phil (Linguistics), Ph.D. (Linguistics) with special interest in the syntax of Indo-Aryan languages.
Description:
This ten-day workshop will benefit from expertise of the guest faculty, Prof.
Rajesh Bhatt (UMass, Amherst). The phenomena to be discussed include case,
ergativity, non-nominative subjects, agreement, correlative constructions,
scrambling, passivization, causativization, among others. It will also include
class presentations by the participants of the work done by them during the
workshop.
