Subject: Awards to support student and post-doc participation in the AAAS 2017 Annual Meeting

Are you a student or post-doc researcher in linguistics or a related
discipline who is interested in how recent developments in science and
technology relate to language science? Are you interested in how science
relates to public policy? The AAAS Annual Meeting offers an exciting venue to
hear talks by leading scientists and policy experts on topics that span all
areas of science and technology, to network with other scientists and policy
experts, and to be a part of the public discussion of science hosted by the
world’s largest general scientific society. Section Z (Linguistics and
Language Science) of the AAAS is pleased to offer a small number of awards to
cover the meeting registration fees for qualified undergraduates, graduate
students, and postdocs. Presentation at the meeting is not a requirement for
this award, though students are encouraged to consider submitting abstracts to
the student poster session (deadline for poster submission: October 20).
Travel and accommodation expenses are not included in the award.

Who can apply:

Undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled in a degree program in
Linguistics or allied field, and postdocs in Linguistics or allied field.

How to apply:

Applications should include the name, class rank or post-doc status,
institutional affiliation and email contact of the applicant, along with a
brief statement of research interest (max. 1 page); applicants who submit a
poster abstract should include the poster title in their applications.
Applications should be sent via email to the Section Z Steering Group at
wasow at stanford.edu. Verification of student or post-doc status must be sent to
the same address in a separate email from the applicant’s faculty advisor or
supervisor.

Application deadline: Applications received by November 15, 2016 will be given
full consideration. Several student and/or post-doc awards will be made to
qualified applicants, in the order in which applications are received.
