Meeting Description:

In the twenty-first century, scholars, policy makers and the general public
have paid renewed attention to the multiple meanings, limits, and interactions
of the body, language, and space. From classical myths to contemporary
transgender issues, how has the concept of transformation evolved throughout
the centuries. How does it appear in the history, literature, arts, and
sciences? In what ways does it touch or shape bodies, languages and places?
Have these transformations been transgressive, or have the maintained the
status-quo? With these critical shifts in mind we invite papers that address
the widespread changes in academic thinking and the world at large. From
Intersex to RuPaul, from the individual to the body politic, from local to
global, from English only to bi- and multi-lingual inclusivity, we seek to
interpret these transformations and transgressions from diverse and innovative
perspectives.
