Description:
The English Department at Grand Valley State University invites applications
for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Applied
Linguistics to begin August 6, 2017. We seek a scholar with a background in
linguistics and specialization in one or more areas of Applied
Linguistics/TESOL. The ideal candidate will complement the current research
and teaching strengths of the Applied Linguistics faculty and be able to teach
a range of courses in our graduate (MA-AL) and undergraduate programs. We are
particularly interested in individuals with expertise in second language
acquisition and pedagogy, L2 reading/literacy development, sociolinguistics,
L2 learners with language learning disorders, low-literate L2 adult learners,
second language assessment, corpus-based research. Experience related to ESL
in K-12 contexts is a plus.
The successful candidate will teach six courses per year from among
undergraduate and graduate offerings in Applied Linguistics. Other
responsibilities include advising students, providing service to the
department and university, and continuing active scholarship.
A Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics/Second Language Studies/TESOL or closely allied
field is required. ABD will be considered with Ph.D. completed by August 1,
2017.
