Description:

We are seeking expressions of interest for a fixed-term one year post in
English language. Only applicants with a reasonable commute to Brighton, UK
are encouraged to apply and those who can start immediately, as this is a
temporary cover, with teaching starting at the end of Sept. 2017. We seek a
lecturer in English language with particular expertise in the areas of
sociophonetics and/or Regional Englishes. The postholder’s teaching and
research would embrace interdisciplinary approaches to language analysis and
will contribute to the department’s growing interdisciplinary work in
sociolinguistics. The postholder will possess a completed doctorate in either
English Language or Linguistics and will have teaching experience at least to
undergraduate level. The post is initially fixed term for a year, full time.
We also welcome those with experience in teaching larger cohorts, ability to
engage with interdisciplinary teaching, perhaps with experience in other areas
of sociolinguistics, such discourse, or stylistics, or similar, although we
are here seeking a specialist in sociophonetics. Applicants with experience in
supervising undergraduate dissertations are also particularly welcome.
 
We seek an academic who can start in approximately 6 weeks' time and has
enough experience to pick up existing provision and curriculum.
