University or Organization: ZAS
Job Location: Berlin, Germany
Web Address: http://www.leibniz-zas.de
Job Title: DP-Border Postdoc
Job Rank: Post Doc; Researcher
Specialty Areas: Semantics; Syntax
Description:
The Leibniz-Center General Linguistics (ZAS, www.leibniz-zas.de) invites
applications for a full-time post-doctoral research position in the project
DP-Border with a starting date between July 1st and October 1st, 2018. The ZAS
is a research institute in the Leibniz Association located in Berlin. The
opening is in a project associated with both area III ""Syntax and Lexicon"
and area IV "Semantics and Pragmatics", and applicants are expected to
interact with researchers from both areas. Currently over 25 researchers work
in the two research groups. The ZAS offers in-house experimental facilities
for laboratory phonology, motion capture, eye-tracking, and uses the software
R for data analysis. The project involves external partners both within
Germany and abroad.
The appointment is initially for a period of one year, with the possibility to
extend to at most three years. The position is funded by the German research
foundation DFG in the approved project DP-Border (PIs Artemis Alexiadou and
Uli Sauerland). Potential applicants are requested to contact Uli Sauerland
to receive the project description and must address the description in their
application. Applicants must have defended their Ph.D by the time of the
appointment. Applicants are expected to have a strong background in
theoretical linguistics (specifically syntax and semantics), and should
demonstrate the ability to carry out the research as planned in the project
description.
The duties of the position are primarily research oriented but include some
administration. The appointment carries no teaching load, but postdocs may
teach one class (90 min./week) per year which can be held at any university in
the Berlin area. The position is remunerated according to E13 of the German
TVOeD pay-scale. The necessary support for conference travel, experimental
work and/or linguistic fieldwork is included in the project budget.
Applications must be submitted via electronic mail and include the following
four items (1, 2 and 3 in PDF format): 1) a letter of intent specifying
research experience and plans in relation to the DP-Border project
description; 2) the curriculum vitae including a complete list of
publications; 3) electronic copies of up to three representative publications;
and 4) the names and email addresses of at least two scholars to be contacted
for letters of recommendation. Applicants attending the 2018 annual meeting
of the German linguistic society DGfS in Stuttgart are requested to indicate
this in their letter.
