Description:
The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Sam Houston State University
(SHSU) invites applications for a full-time (3/3 load), tenure-track position
in French at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a highly dynamic
professor who is eager to help build the existing French program through an
innovative vision consisting of curricular development and interdisciplinary
collaboration across colleges. The teaching load is 6 courses annually and
consists of teaching French language, literature and culture courses at the
elementary, intermediate and advanced levels.
Minimum qualifications:
PhD in French and documented specialization in contemporary Francophone
culture and literature; commitment to undergraduate education and to
attracting students from traditionally underrepresented populations;
demonstrated experience and excellence in language teaching at all levels;
experience and/or willingness to teach online courses; outstanding potential
in research and/or creativity; familiarity with ACTFL standards; working with
office staff on enrollment management; planning professional development
workshops and actively participating in the department’s Language Learning and
Teaching Workshop Series; willingness to contribute to study abroad programs
and a thriving French Club. The successful candidate will also have native or
near-native fluency in French, excellent interpersonal skills and be expected
to teach at the main SHSU campus in Huntsville, Texas (located 70 miles north
of Houston), occasionally, at The Woodlands Campus (40 miles south of
Huntsville), and online.
