Description:
The Department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex is
seeking to appoint a 3-year fixed term full-time Lecturer in the field of
Sociolinguistics, to cover a 3-year Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship
awarded to Dr Enam Al-Wer. The appointed candidate will be responsible for
delivering teaching in variationist sociolinguistics at both the undergraduate
and postgraduate level. The successful candidate will have specialised in
sociolinguistics with the ability to deliver teaching in Varieties of English,
Multilingualism, Language and Gender and World Englishes central to the role.
The candidate should demonstrate excellent research in sociolinguistics,
showing a good understanding of both methods in sociolinguistic research and
how these methods lead to detailed studies of variation in different
populations.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Sociolinguistics or a highly
related field, and should also be able to contribute to the supervision of
both BA and MA projects in sociolinguistics, as well as contribute to the
administration and management of the department. The successful candidate must
demonstrate both an ability to offer a transformative education to students
and also conduct excellent research demonstrated in publications and future
plans for continued productivity.
The contract is a 3-year fixed term 1.0fte full time role (nominal 36 hours
per week).
