Call Deadline: 28-Feb-2017
Meeting Description:
The “RiUscire” project (2014 – 2017) is offering a discussion forum to some
experts on forms and modalities for inmates’ rehabilitation. Experts can thus
share views on an analysis proposal relevant to one of the most important
issues of contemporary societies interested by strong migration flows: the
management of linguistic and cultural diversity in a context of
marginalisation like in prison.
During the Conference three macro topics will be developed: they are linked to
teaching/learning foreign and second languages in prison, the training of
prison staff and teachers, and the management of cultural diversities:
European policies on integration of diversity brought by migrants;
Management of diversity and of linguistic contacts in marginalized contexts
for inmates;
Measures to counter radicalization leading to violence based on intercultural
education.
Call for papers International Conference “Penitentiary systems and foreign
detainees: problems, resources and perspectives”
The 2017 International Conference “Penitentiary systems and foreign detainees:
problems, resources and perspectives” within the Erasmus+ Ka2 Project RiUscire
will be held on May 26-27 2017 at the University for Foreigners of Siena,
Italy.
The increase of the presence of foreign detainees in European prisons (40% of
total population) and the gradual transformation of the European prison
context in a multicultural reality determines the necessity to renovate the
treatment programs and a major attention to the issues of intercultural
communication and social mediation.
This overrepresentation, related to marginalization processes suffered by
immigrants as a group at risk of social exclusion, requires a specific
analysis and interventions devoted to the improvement of communication in the
whole penitentiary context. The project “RiUscire” (Erasmus+ KA2) is founded
on the enhancement of the conditions of the foreign detainee’s detention and
on the aim of creating a model for communication and for linguistic and
socio-professional empowerment of foreign inmates, teachers and prison staff,
a model extended as a good practice in different European penitentiary
contexts. The experience gained in the project demonstrates that it is
possible and necessary to exploit and take advantage of the linguistic and
cultural superdiversity of this context in order to transform it into a place
where specialized competencies and preparation to the social reinsertion can
be acquired.
Call for Papers:
Aim of the International Conference:
Present the main results of the project RiUscire and give floor to a debate
among international experts, with a focus on how to transform the European
penitentiary context from a place of exclusion and deprivation to a place
where specialized competencies and preparation for the social integration can
be acquired.T he conference welcomes empirical and methodological papers from
different disciplinary perspectives that focus on three macro areas linked to
the teaching/learning of the second/foreign languages in penitentiary
contexts, the training of penitentiary staff and the teachers in prison
contexts and the management of cultural diversity:
- European policies for the integration of migration - related diversity
- Management of the linguistic diversity and the linguistic contact in
marginalization contexts (penitentiary context)
- Measures for preventing radicalisation based on intercultural education
projects.
