BELP 2017: Birmingham English Language Postgraduate Conference
Friday, 7 April 2017
University of Birmingham
Deadline for abstracts: Friday, 10 February 2017 at 17:00
We are currently accepting abstract submissions and would welcome
contributions that focus on exciting new directions in Applied Linguistics
research. This year's conference theme will allow attendees and presenters a
chance to consider linguistics and its relationship with other disciplines.
Whether it be new theoretical or methodological approaches or new ethical,
environmental and political considerations, we hope this conference will allow
attendees to reflect on how interdisciplinarity is currently influencing and
has influenced Applied Linguistics research. Papers might consider the
following:
- Theories and methodologies employed from other disciplines in Applied
Linguistics research
- Issues arising when taking an interdisciplinary approach
- How ethical, environmental and political issues might be drawn into the
Applied Linguistics field through an interdisciplinary focus
- Particular linguists whose work employs an interdisciplinary approach
The BELP conference aims to be broad and inclusive, therefore, submissions
from any sub-field within the Applied Linguistics discipline will be
considered, including (but not limited to) corpus linguistics, cognitive
linguistics, discourse analysis, pragmatics, stylistics, and TEFL.
Key Dates:
- Friday 10 February 2017 (17:00) - Deadline for abstract submissions
- Friday 24 February 2017 - Notification of successful submissions
- Friday 31 March 2017 - Registration deadline
We invite submissions for oral presentations (20 minutes, plus 5 minutes for
questions).
Abstracts should be no longer that 250 words and should include the title of
your paper, keywords, your name, institution, research status (PhD, MPhil,
MRes, MA), and contact details.
Please send abstract submissions and inquiries to the organising committee
(Matt Collins and Kate Pearce) via belp2017 at gmail.com.
All attendees are asked to register on the BELP website:
https://belp2017.wordpress.com/.
We are also actively seeking students willing to chair the panels, so if you
are interested in chairing a session, please let us know when registering for
the conference.
