Meeting Description:
Like previous ICAL conferences, 14ICAL accepts papers concerned with
Austronesian languages in any and all areas of linguistics.
With over 1200 languages, Austronesian is the world’s second largest language
family, spanning over half of the globe, from Madagascar in the west, through
Southeast Asia and Melanesia, all the way out to Easter Island in the east.
Among the Austronesian languages are some with many millions of speakers, such
as Malay, Indonesian, Javanese and Tagalog, as well as numerous much smaller
ones, and, unfortunately, many that are highly endangered. The International
Conference on Austronesian Linguistics meets once every three years, bringing
together researchers working on Austronesian languages in all areas of
linguistics, synchronic and diachronic.
