Description:

Vacancies at SCSU are contingent on funding.

This will be a full-time probationary (tenure-track) position to teach
undergraduate and graduate courses in general linguistics for a BA in English,
with an emphasis in Linguistics, and an MA in Teaching English as a Second

Responsibilities: 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in general
linguistics as well as graduate seminars in Theories in Second Language
Acquisition. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to teach
First-Year Composition.
 
In order to be considered for tenure, the successful candidate will
demonstrate the ability to:   
- teach and/or perform assignments effectively; 
- conduct scholarly achievement or research; 
- continue preparation and study in discipline; 
- contribute to student growth and development; and 
- provide service to the university and community. (IFO Article 22, Section B)

Qualifications: 

Required:
- Ph.D. in linguistics or applied linguistics by the time of appointment.
- Experience teaching undergraduate courses in general linguistics.
- Evidence of demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from
culturally diverse backgrounds.
 
Preferred:
- Experience teaching:
- Specific courses in English Syntax, History of English, American English,
and graduate-level Theories in Second Language Acquisition (relevant
graduate-level course work will be considered in lieu of teaching experience)
- Courses face-to-face and online using digital technology
- First-year composition
