About the position:

Carleton University’s School of Linguistics and Language Studies (SLaLS)
invites applications for a two-year term position in Linguistics (Semantics)
at the level of Instructor I, commencing July 1, 2017. A candidate with a
specialization in formal semantics with secondary specializations in syntax or
morphology is preferred.

This is a teaching position with a load of seven courses per year over Fall
and Winter terms. The successful candidate will be expected to teach
undergraduate courses to a culturally diverse student body.

Some potential courses are: Semantics (at the 3rd year level), Formal
Semantics (at the 4th year), Lexical Semantics (at the 4th year level),
Linguistic Analysis (a 2nd year morphosyntax data analysis course taught twice
a term), and Introduction to Linguistics 1 (a first year course).

Qualifications:

We are looking for an individual with a PhD degree with a research
specialization in the area of formal semantics. Secondary specialization in
one or more of the areas of syntax or morphology is
an asset. Applicants must also have a demonstrated record of excellence in
teaching at the university level.

The academic unit:

The School’s Linguistics program is housed in a unit representing a rich
diversity of perspectives on language, with degree programs in Linguistics and
Applied Linguistics & Discourse Studies, as well as courses, minors or
certificates in ASL, Arabic, Mandarin, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, and
Russian, as well as Communication Courses for Disciplines and Professions and
English as a Second Language for international students, immigrants, and
