Focus: The LSA has sponsored the Linguistic Institute since 1928, when the first program was organized by Edgar Sturtevant at Yale University. The purpose of the Institute is to “provide advanced training in linguistics that is not readily available through the regular course offerings of any single academic institution.” Over the years, the Institute has been held at a diverse array of universities and colleges. The 2017 LSA Institute will be held at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.

Description:
There are roughly 80 courses on topics in a wide variety of lingusitic
subfields. There will also be a number of conferences, workshops, documentary
films, public lectures and other social events during the Institute.

Tuition: 1990 USD
Tuition Explanation: $ 1990 early bird tuition rate until March 1. After March 1st, tuition will be
$2300.
Financial Aid: Applications accepted until 01-Feb-2017
Students may apply for fellowships directly from the Linguistic Society of America.
Financial Aid Instructions:
To apply for a fellowship, students will be asked to write a statement of purpose of no more than 500 words, to identify the Institute courses they intend to take and to provide details about academic preparation, including publications and presentation, transcripts, and English proficiency. Applicants for the Bloch Fellowship will be asked to write brief additional statements of qualification. Academic transcripts are required for North American applicants who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, a Master's program, or years 1-3 of a PhD program, and for applicants from other institutions if they are available. Two letters of recommendation will also be required. As noted above, the names and e-mail addresses of two recommenders are submitted as part of the fellowship application, and the LSA solicits the recommendations.

Registration Instructions:
Students may now register for up to four courses. Changes in courses may be
made until June 15th. Registration does not include housing, but those
registering should fill out the "Plans and Arrangements" form to receive
details on housing arrangements when they become available.
