Description:
The University of Potsdam, Faculty of Human Sciences, Research Focus Cognitive
Sciences, invites applications for a W 3-Professorship in Computational
Linguistics.
The successful applicant will conduct research and teaching in the area
'Foundations of Computational Linguistics'. His or her research focus should
be on the formal aspects of grammatical processing and parsing of natural
languages (covering both syntax and semantics). Methodological approaches can
include grammar formalisms, statistical methods (such as probabilistic
parsing) and machine learning. The scientific profile of the successful
applicant should complement the interdisciplinary research in the university‘s
focal research center Cognitive Sciences, the corresponding unit in the
Faculty of Human Sciences, and the degree programs in Computational
Linguistics (B.Sc.) and Cognitive Systems (M.Sc., taught jointly with the
Computer Science department).
The successful applicant is expected to contribute to a planned collaborative
research center on variability and stability of language, and to the
preparation of other future collaborative activities in the Cognitive
Sciences. Experience in successfully obtaining third-party funding is
required, as is an excellent international visibility and publication record.
The hiring process is subject to the requirements set forth in § 41 of the
Brandenburg Higher Education Act for tenured professors only.
