Linguistic Field(s): Applied Linguistics

Subject Language(s): English (eng)

Call Deadline: 10-Sep-2017

Meeting Description:

As has been stated by Marianne Celce-Murcia (2001:3), “[t]he field of second
(or foreign) language teaching has undergone many fluctuations and shifts over
the years. Different from physics or chemistry, in which progress is more or
less steady until a major discovery causes a radical theoretical revision,
language teaching is a field in which fads and heroes have come and gone in a
manner fairly consistent with the kinds of changes that occur in youth
culture”. This is the reason why, despite a continually growing body of
research data, the L2 learning/teaching processes remain to a large extent a
mystery waiting to be further unveiled, explored and reflected upon.
Consequently, we welcome papers that investigate qualitative and quantitative
swings in various L2 classroom areas stretching from cognitive and affective
factors via teacher talk and special educational needs to metaphorical
competence and code-switching.

Call for Papers:

We welcome proposals in the following topic strands in the form of papers (20
minutes + 10 minutes for discussion):
- Language and learner variables
- Language and the assessment of learning achievements
- Language and new technologies
- Language and intercultural communicative competence
- Language and metaphor
- Language and classroom management
- Language and specific learning difficulties
- Dual code use
- Classroom discourse
- Language skills and subsystems
- Young learner SLA

Abstracts in the range of 200-300 words should be forwarded to
changeinl2classroom at gmail.com by September 10th, 2017. The proposals should
include the title, name, affiliation, e-mail address and a short biographical
note (ca. 70 words). Notifications of acceptance will be sent by October 10th,
2017.
