Subject: Call for Chapters: Spanish in Contact and in the US
Contact, Community, and Connections: Current approaches to Spanish in the
United States and Spanish in Contact with Other Languages
Inspired by the 26th Conference on Spanish in the United States & 11th
Conference on Spanish in Contact with Other Languages.
Original and unpublished manuscripts are invited to be published in an edited
volume of articles related to Spanish in the US and Spanish in contact with
other languages. We have been in contact with Vernon Press, Sabio Books, and
John Benjamins Publishing, all of whom have expressed interest in publishing
this edited volume.
We invite submission of papers in all areas of language research related to
any aspect of Spanish in the United States or Spanish in contact with other
languages including but not limited to the following:
- Bilingualism
- Educational policies and practices
- Formal aspects of US Spanish
- Heritage language learning and teaching
- Language and identity
- Language and the law
- Language contact and change
- Language ideologies
- Language in politics and politics of language
- Language maintenance
- Language planning
- Language policy
- Language rights
- Linguistic anthropology
- Linguistic variation
- Mass media and Spanish
- Spanish in the professions
- Spanish and the economy
Anticipated Timeline for Publication:
- August 1, 2017: Manuscripts due
- October 15, 2017: Double-blind reviews completed
- October 30, 2017: Notification of acceptance
- December 15, 2017: Corrections/revisions due
- January 15, 2018: Book manuscript turned in to publisher
Manuscripts will be reviewed by the editors and two external reviewers.
Publication is anticipated for spring 2018.
Manuscripts, including references and tables, should be between 7,000 and
10,000 words and use APA style.
Microsoft Word documents and should be emailed to salvord at byu.edu. Questions
can also be sent to this email address.
