As mass communication technologies have become increasingly available and
accessible, professionals all over the world have expanded their communicative
practices into digital environments. Online communication has become an
essential channel for interactions among professionals in different fields and
domains, with English establishing itself as the working language for many of
such exchanges.
Issue 10 of Iperstoria aims at investigating the peculiarities of specialized
discourses online, exploring the methodological and theoretical challenges
related to the study of both established practices taking place online and new
ones emerging from the dynamic environment of the Web 2.0, which are shaped by
the affordances of the digital tools and platforms used to communicate.
Relevant types of online exchange involve communication both among
professionals and between professionals and laymen. The implications for ESP
teaching and learning also constitute a key area of investigation, as the
study of professionals' linguistic and discursive practices goes hand in hand
with that of the role of online tools for pedagogical purposes in the training
of future professionals.
Proposals for contributions, in English or in Italian, are welcome from
scholars working in the fields of Specialized Discourses, ESP, and Applied
Linguistics, on topics that include, but are not limited to:
- Corpus Linguistics
- Pragmatics and cross-cultural communication
- English Language Teaching
- E-learning applications and experiences
An abstract of 150-200 words should be submitted to redazione at iperstoria.it by
