Focus: The Summer Institute for Languages of the Muslim World (SILMW) is held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and offers intensive language courses in Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Swahili, and Wolof.

Description:
The Summer Institute for Languages of the Muslim World (SILMW) is held at the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and runs from June 17, 2017
- August 5, 2017. SILMW offers courses in Arabic, Persian, Swahili, Turkish,
and Wolof - languages spoken in Muslim-majority countries throughout Africa
and Asia. Within eight weeks, students can complete the equivalent of one
academic year of foreign language study and earn up to 10 credit hours. In
addition to classroom instruction, students take part in a variety of cultural
activities intended to immerse them in the foreign language. These include
conversation tables, movie nights, cooking classes, and much more!

UIUC students can register directly on the Banner System in the same way they
register for any other course during the academic year. SILMW language courses
will appear under the 'summer 2017' term with the rubrics ARAB, PERS, TURK,
SWAH, and WLOF.
