Description:
The emergence of Modern Hebrew as a case-study of linguistic discontinuity
MABAR offers doctoral and post-doctoral fellowships for researchers in the
project for two years with a possibility of extension, starting October 2017.
The MABAR project, headed by Prof. Edit Doron, studies the characterisation of
linguistic discontinuity: the extreme case of linguistic change due to
linguistic contact. Case studies include the emergence of Modern Hebrew and
other attempted cases of language revival.
Applicants must hold MA or PhD degrees in Linguistics or Hebrew Language, and
have a proven academic record and strong interest in research of theoretical
issues of syntax and semantics within the framework of formal theories of one
or more of the following: historical linguistics, language acquisition and
language contact.
Applicants are requested to submit the following materials:
- CV
- official transcripts
- two letters of recommendation by researchers who are familiar with the
applicant’s work
- a one-page Statement of Purpose, in which they describe their academic
interests and possible
research questions within the framework of the project
- photograph
