Linguistic research at Birmingham is strongly underpinned by theories and
methods in Corpus Linguistics. The strong cross-disciplinary reach of corpus
linguistics extends to links between cognitive linguistics, psycholinguistics,
discourse analysis, stylistics, sociolinguistics and language teaching. The
Department seeks to expand its reputation still further by employing a leading
figure in Linguistics who is working at the interface of corpus linguistics
with any one of our other core departmental research specialisms:

The successful candidate will have an outstanding record of publication at an
international level and a record of successful applications for research
funding. He/she will also have a commitment to teaching, experience of
programme development, and a good track record of attracting and supervising
doctoral researchers. He/she will have research expertise in corpus
linguistics as well as wide-ranging research interests in English Language and
Applied Linguistics. He/she will have a vision for developing their specific
area of research while reinforcing the strong Birmingham ‘brand’, and will
demonstrate the ability to lead colleagues in the department.
