Language Policy and Language Planning in the Romance Countries/Germany

Focus: From 17 to 20 July 2017 the third linguistic summer school of the Deutscher Romanistenverband will take place at Leipzig University under the topic “Sprachpolitik und Sprachplanung in der Romania” (language policy and language planning in the Romance countries). The summer school is aimed at PhD students as well as post-docs in the fields of Romance studies and translation studies. The event is meant to be a forum for scientific exchange and networking.
Minimum Education Level: No Minimum


Description:
The summer school consists of four components:

- experts’ talks and discussions
- young academics’ talks and discussions
- collective reading units
- workshops

16 young academics will be given the chance to present and discuss their
projects. The participation is free of charge and the working language is
German.

Every particular day of the summer school is set to be dedicated to a
different topic:

Monday, 17 July: Language policy “from above”: language legislation, language
planning and linguistic rights
Tuesday, 18 July: Language policy “from below”
Wednesday, 19 July: Language policy and minority languages
Thursday, 20 July: Translation in the area of conflict of language policy and
language planning

Registration Instructions:
The participation in the summer school is granted only if the individual is
ready and willing to give a talk. It is mandatory to participate at the summer
school entirely for 4 days. Young academics of Romance studies and translation
studies can submit an application (max. 2 pages incl. bibliography, Times New
Roman, 12pt, 1,5 spacing) for a talk corresponding to one of the four topics
designated. You are kindly requested to outline the topic of the talk in your
application and illustrate how your research project is linked to the
particular topic of the day which you’re willing to apply for. Besides PhD
students are required to submit a certificate that proves their status as
such.
