University or Organization: Carleton College
Department: Linguistics
Job Location: Minnesota, USA
Web Address: https://www.carleton.edu/
Job Title: Visiting Assistant Professor of Linguistics
Job Rank: Visiting Professor
Specialty Areas: Morphology; Syntax
Description:
Carleton College invites applications for a one-year appointment at the rank
of visiting assistant professor in the small but enthusiastic Linguistics
Department, for the academic year 2017-18. The department currently has three
full-time tenured faculty, and approximately 20 majors.
We seek to hire a specialist in syntax and/or morphology. The Ph.D. is
preferred by the beginning of the appointment. The successful candidate will
be an excellent teacher, able to inspire very talented and hard-working
undergraduate students. Duties include teaching two sections of introductory
syntax, one section of introduction to linguistics, and one upper level course
for linguistics majors on or at least near the topic of the applicant’s
dissertation. (Carleton is on a trimester calendar.) The visitor will also be
asked to advise students who are writing their senior thesis. (The position is
2/3 the regular teaching load for visiting faculty.)
Appointment will be at the Visiting Assistant Professor level. We will also
consider applicants in the late stages of graduate work. If the Ph.D. is not
in hand by the time of appointment, rank will be at the Visiting Lecturer
level.
To apply, please visit the Carleton College Web site at the application URL
below and complete the online application, including a cover letter, CV, brief
statements describing teaching experience, research agenda, two samples of
scholarship, a graduate transcript, and contact information for three letters
of reference (at least one of which should address your teaching). Questions
about the position or the application process may be directed to Professor
Michael Flynn (see contact information below).
Applications completed (except letters of reference) by April 21, 2017 will
receive full consideration.
Carleton is committed to developing its faculty to better reflect the
diversity of our student body and American society. Women and members of
minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Carleton College does not
