Meeting Description:

'Accents' is an annual conference organized by the Department of English
Language and Applied Linguistics at the University of Łódź, Poland. It brings
together researchers and teachers interested in native and non-native accents
of English, approached from a variety of theoretical and/or practical
perspectives. The key issues discussed each year include individual accent
characteristics, the dynamism of accent usage, accent teaching and learning,
and the methods and tools for accent studies. ACCENTS 2017 aim to continue the
discussion of the main themes of variability and function of accents, focusing
on 'accents in use'.

Call for Papers:

We invite proposals for papers, workshops and posters related to the main
theme 'accents in use' as well as other issues related to native and
non-native accents of English, including, but not limited to the ones
mentioned below:  

- Functional approach to accents 
- Accents in context (social, ethnic, geographical, political, historical)  
- Native / non-native accent perspective in theory and practice  
- Variability in accents: description, explanation and predictions  
- Tools for accent/pronunciation studies
- Pronunciation teaching and learning 

Please notice that each author can propose two contributions provided that one
of them is co-authored.  Papers are given 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes
for discussion, workshops will typically have 45 minute slots. Please specify
the intended presentation format in your proposal. 

The deadline for abstract submission is July 31, 2017. Please send  two copies
of an abstract of up to 400 words (excluding references) to
accents at uni.lodz.pl, with the intended format, name and affiliation written
under the title in one copy. The proposals will go through the process of peer
review, after which notifications of acceptance will be sent out by August 31,
2017.
