Description:
The Department of Slavic Studies invites applications for a new lecturer
position beginning in Spring 2018. Specialization open, with a preference for
Russian language pedagogy and Russian culture (any time period). The
successful candidate will teach a course load of 2/1 annually in Slavic
Studies while serving as Faculty Director of the Global Learning Lab in the
Otto and Fran Walter Commons for Global Study and Engagement.
The teaching load will include courses in elementary and intermediate Russian,
advanced-level courses in Russian (e.g., cinema, literature, history,
contemporary culture, and emigration), and content courses taught in English.
Native or near-native fluency in Russian is required; minimum qualification is
a Master’s degree, but a Ph.D. is preferred. All members of the Slavic Studies
Department are expected to engage with students outside of the classroom and
actively participate in the life of the department, meet with students over
lunch at Russian table, and organize and attend departmental events. All
lecturers are voting members of the faculty.
As Faculty Director of the Global Learning Lab, the candidate will be a
collaborative partner in the development and operation of the Walter Commons
for Global Study and Engagement, a new intellectual and physical space
scheduled to open in Spring 2018. The Walter Commons will provide a centrally
located space for faculty, staff, and students to interact and engage in
critical dialogues around issues of urgent global and local concern. The new
space will house the Global Learning Lab, the Office of Study Away, the Center
for the Critical Study of Race and Ethnicity (CCSRE), the Center for
International Studies and the Liberal Arts (CISLA), and the Office for Global
Initiatives. As Faculty Director of the Global Learning Lab, the successful
candidate will lead efforts to:
