Description:
The Department of Germanic Studies at the University of Texas at Austin
invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Second Language
Studies, preferably with several years of experience, who will be responsible
for the coordination of the lower-division German language program and
associated TA training. This is a tenure-track position. Applicants must hold
a Ph.D. in any area of Germanic Studies (including Education).
The successful candidate will maintain an active research and publication
program in any area related, but not limited to language acquisition, teaching
and learning (linguistic based or culturally grounded), educational policy,
assessment, or various cultural pedagogies (digital, transcultural, inclusive,
alternate, etc.). The successful candidate will also demonstrate commitment to
both undergraduate and graduate education, as a mentor, research supervisor,
and curriculum developer and the ability to supervise and mentor teaching
assistants at a large research university with an increasingly diverse student
body. Important qualifications are the ability to plan, implement, and
evaluate curricular shifts, the ability to engage in department assessment
activities, the ability to supervise theses and dissertations on Second
Language Studies topics, including research design, and a broad engagement in
the life of the department.
