Description:

Job Purpose:
To set the strategic plan and budget for the Graduate Studies. To monitor and
manage the full range of MAs and doctoral degrees offered by the Translation
and Interpreting Studies Department, ensuring alignment to all approved
objectives and targets in order to achieve high performance in terms of
growth, efficiency, effectiveness and achievement of the college’s vision and
mission. The Chair of the Department will be responsible of delivering some
components of the academic programs and ensuring that both MA and PhD students
receive appropriate training in their chosen specialism.

Requirements:
- Full or Associate Professor 
- A completed PhD in Translation Studies or related fields.
- Ten (10) years of experience in the education sector.
- Experience of designing courses at graduate level.
- Experience as Program Director or head.
- Excellent teaching skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills. 
- Familiarity with generic and specialist IT applications.
- Fluency in English and at least one other language offered by the Institute;
fluency in additional languages is preferred (Arabic, French, Spanish, German
etc.)

Key Result Area:
- Set the overall strategy and direction of the Masters’ programs in
coordination with the Dean of the College. 
- Play a main role in student recruitment and outreach activities by attending
local and regional events, class visits, and fairs, as well as HBKU and CHSS
events hosted on campus. 
- Lead the academic presentations, activities, and sessions planned during New
Student Orientation. 
- Oversee department’s committees including, but not limited to: validation
committee and faculty hiring committee.
- Hold biweekly meetings with faculty and provide mentorship to junior
faculty. 
- Prepare the business plan and annual budget for the Masters’ Program in line
with HBKU guidelines in order to meet the overall objectives of the CHSS and
HBKU.
- Develop the Masters’ Program’s curricula in coordination with CHSS
Curriculum Committee as well as the program coordinators of the relevant
programs and advice on the course offerings.
- Set the course sequencing and scheduling, ensuring that it meets all the
standards and guidelines of the Academic Program. 
- Supervise MA and PhD students.             
- Participate in the selection and testing of potential students, ensuring
that they meet the requirements for admission.   
- Update the Student Handbook on an annual basis, and hand over the final
version to the marketing team for printing.
- Develop and maintain Graduate Studies reputation amongst Faculty, staff,
students and regulatory/official bodies to ensure that the Graduate Studies as
well as the Institute continue to set high standards within the community and
internationally.
- Develop faculty professional development plan for the academic year.
- Update Departmental policies in accordance to CHSS and HBKU policies.
- Participate in the accreditation process for the Masters’ Program and
facilitate access to all information requested by the accreditation committee.
