Description:

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese seeks a pool of part-time, non-tenure
track lecturers to teach upper division courses in Spanish linguistics. The
pool will remain open through October 12, 2018 to accommodate upcoming course
needs and new applicants. Positions are part-time, renewable, non-tenure
track, 33-100% per semester based on need. The number of positions varies from
semester to semester, and appointments may be renewable based on need,
funding, and performance. Applicants interested in remaining in the
department’s lecturer pool beyond that time must reapply to a new search pool.
Typically the Department reviews applications for fall teaching in April, and
applications for spring teaching in October and November. 

General duties include holding office hours, developing syllabi, assignments
and writing exams. Other duties may be assigned by the Chair as necessary.

Basic qualifications (by the time of application): Applicants must have
completed all Ph.D requirements except the doctoral dissertation or the
equivalent at the time of application. College level teaching experience
required.

Additional qualifications (by the time of employment): A PhD (or equivalent
degree) in Hispanic linguistics, in linguistics with an emphasis in Spanish,
or in a related field.

Preferred qualifications (by the time of employment): Applicants must have
native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English Demonstrated experience
in teaching undergraduate courses spanning several linguistic sub-fields
including Phonology, Phonetics, Morphology, Syntax, Sociolinguistics, Second
Language Acquisition, Psycholinguistics, and Language Contact . Particularly
welcome would be demonstrated experience with the aforementioned range of
linguistic sub-fields specifically focusing on Hispanic Linguistics, as well
as a strong interest in empirical and experimental approaches to Hispanic
Linguistics.

Letter of application, updated curriculum vitae, statement of teaching
philosophy, four recent teaching evaluations, two original teaching activities
that reflect teaching philosophy, and contact information for three references
are required of all applicants. Statement of Contribution to Diversity:
statement addressing past and/or potential contributions to diversity through
research, teaching and/or service is optional. Beginning salary is based on an
annual full-time salary rate of $52,099. Actual salary will be commensurate
with college level teaching experience.
