Call for Papers:
The 8th Northern Englishes Workshop (NEW8) will be held at Newcastle
University on the 27 and 28 March 2018. The workshop focuses on any aspect of
English or Scots varieties associated with the linguistic north of the British
Isles and thus historically connected in some respect with the Northumbrian
dialect of Old English. We welcome papers in all areas of
linguistics connected to varieties in these regions of the so-called Atlantic
Archipelago (Pocock 2005: 29).
In keeping with its workshop nature, both informal presentations/discussions
about ongoing research and conference-style research presentations are
appropriate.
NEW8 will include a special session on dialect and discrimination, and we
especially welcome papers from researchers working in this area.
We invite submissions for presentations of 20 minutes, with 10 minutes for
questions/discussion. Please submit your papers at the following Easy Chair
link by 10 November 2017. Abstracts should be no more than one page of A4,
size 12 font (excluding references). It is not necessary to make your abstract
anonymous. Please contact us if you have any questions.
