The Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Utah
invites applications for a tenure-track position in Chinese at the Assistant
Professor level beginning July 1, 2018. The successful candidate will have
expertise in Chinese Applied Linguistics and Pedagogy/Second Language
Acquisition and the ability to teach courses in these areas. The candidate is
expected to contribute to all areas of undergraduate and graduate programs
including curricular development. Clear evidence of research potential and
demonstrated teaching excellence is required. Additional requirements:
experience in teaching Chinese at the college/university level in North
America, and demonstrated interest in promoting effective language teaching.
Native or near-native fluency in Chinese and English is a prerequisite. The
teaching load is four courses (two per semester) including Chinese language
teaching at all levels, depending on program needs. Service commensurate with
the position of assistant professor is expected. Applicants must have a PhD in
Chinese linguistics, applied linguistics or second language acquisition with a
Chinese focus, or a related field or equivalent terminal degree in hand by
August 15, 2018. Complete applications include a letter of application, CV, a
representative writing sample, three letters of recommendation, and evidence
of teaching effectiveness. Application materials must be submitted
