Call Deadline: 15-Oct-2017

Meeting Description:

Funded by the British Association of Applied Linguistics (BAAL) and Routledge
we are pleased to announce a call for papers for the following workshop:
Developmental workshop on Bilingual First Language Acquisition: Current
Theories and Methodologies which will take place at the University of York,
UK.

The workshop brings together established researchers, postgraduates (PGs) and
early career researchers (ECRs) to discuss and share best practices in the
theories and methodologies of bilingual first language acquisition (BFLA).
This 2-day workshop has been designed to include training sessions and keynote
speeches by scholars at the cutting edge of the field, and presentation slots
for established researchers, PGs and ECRs making the workshop highly
interactive and inclusive.

The workshop aims to explore the topic of BFLA holistically from its
linguistic, scientific, sociolinguistic and sociocultural perspectives.
Creating a space within which to explore and critically discuss the current
theories and methodologies of BFLA is important for two main reasons: first,
there is an ever-increasing number of children exposed to two languages from
birth and so studies of BFLA children are on the rise. And second, there is
currently a move by researchers to adopt a greater variety of theoretical
paradigms, including interdisciplinary theoretical frameworks and
methodological designs. These changes often leave those new to the field, ECRs
and PGs unsure of how to best conduct research into BFLA. Hence, this workshop
aims to offer an overview of the field as it currently stands through
interaction with and direct learning from more experienced researchers as well
as experts in the field. Attendees can discuss their ideas, be given feedback,
learn from fellow attendees and go on to design their projects with
confidence.

Our invited keynote speakers and methodological workshop convenors are:

Prof. Dr. Annick De Houwer, Erfurt University, Germany
Prof. Marilyn Vihman, University of York
Dr. Xiao-Lan Curdt-Christiansen, University of Reading
Prof. Ben Ambridge, University of Liverpool

We invite researchers at all stages to submit a paper, poster or short
5-minute talk on current or on-going research. We are very excited to host
this workshop and hope with your support it can be beneficial for all and that
we can realise our aims. More detailed information about this call can be
found in the attached document and at the conference website:
https://baalyork2017workshop.wordpress.com/ . If you require more information
please feel free to contact us at: baal2017york at gmail.com

We invite submissions for 3 types of contributions:

A 20-minute paper & 5 minutes discussion

Poster presentation
Abstracts should be no more than 250 words and should include: aims of the
research; the methodology, findings (if possible) and the contribution the
