The English Department of the College of Basic Education in the Public
Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) is pleased to invite you
to CELL3: 3rd Annual Conference of Education, Literature, and Linguistics that
will take place on Sunday, 26 November 2017 in the College of Basic Education
(PAAET), Kuwait, under the theme “Language Policy and Planning”.
The aim of this annual conference is to bring together the three main foci of
English teaching: Education, Literature, and Linguistics. It will serve as a
platform to share views, professional practices, as well as academic
experiences from researchers in the fields of (applied) linguistics,
literature, and education.
Conference themes include:
- Document challenges encountered in the education system
- Role of institutions in the development of standard language and in the
promotion and preservation of language culture
- Standard and non-standard varieties
- Attitudes towards the varieties of one’s mother tongue
- Language as an instrument of political (social) control
- The role of the media in the shaping and implementation of language policies
- Prestige and language
- Recent dialectological theories and research of dialects within the
framework of language planning and policies
- Language and identity

Call for Papers:
All proposal abstracts should be sent electronically, as e-mail attachments in
Microsoft Word to cell_ted at yahoo.com by October 31, 2017. The language of the
conference will be English. Abstracts should include the following: (i)
150-250 words count (12 Times New Roman, double-space), (ii) the name and
surname of the author(s), and (iii) affiliation of the author and the e-mail
address. If the paper has more than one author, when sending the abstract,
please include the names of all the authors, their complete affiliations and
positions. Please use the following format as the filename of your abstract:
Surname-Title in .doc or .docx format (surname of the corresponding author
only). Abstracts will be evaluated according to the originality of the topic,
clear methodology, and scholarly contribution of the research.
Upon acceptance (notification of acceptance: November 6, 2017), each
participant shall deliver a 20-minute paper presentation, which will be
followed by a 10-minute question and answer session. The conference hall is
equipped with basic audio-video equipment (such as projectors, projection
screens, speaker and microphone systems).
