Meeting Description:

SinFonIJA 11 thematic session 1: Phonology and phonetics: their relations and
demarcations

The Phonology and phonetics: their relations and demarcation session,
organized in celebration of the 50th anniversary of The Sound Pattern of
English, will look into the nature of the relationship between phonetics and
phonology and the status of phonetics in the grammar, including the following
questions:

- Is there universal phonetics or is phonetics language-specific?
- How to bridge the gap between the discrete and the continuous?
- Do phonological categories have phonetic substance?
- What is the nature of the phonetics-phonology interface?
- Is phonetics about computation or interpretation?
- To what extent phonology determines phonetics?
- To what extent phonetics determines phonology?


Final Call for Papers:

We invite abstracts for 25 minute talks, followed by 5 minutes of discussion
and for posters.

Abstract guidelines:

- Please submit your abstract via EasyChair
(https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=sinfonija11) as a PDF file with fonts
embedded.
- Please indicate whether you would like your abstract to be considered for
the main session, thematic session 1 or thematic session 2.
- Submissions are restricted to a maximum of one single-authored and one
co-authored abstract (or two co-authored abstracts).
- Abstracts should not exceed two A4/US Letter pages (references and examples
including), font size 12, single line spacing.
- Abstracts must be anonymous.
