Subject: Programming Tools for Assessing Punctuation Patterns
Hi all,
I'm looking for tools to help me assess the degree of spelling and punctuation
standardization in a corpus of emails. More specifically, I'm interested in
extended punctuation (!!!!!!!!) and extended letters (whyyyyyyyyy) as
affect/register signifiers, lack of terminal punctuation, etc. I can use
regular expressions to target individual types, but it'd be great to use
something more comprehensive. It would be wonderful, for example, to measure a
text's choices against, say, the rules of the Chicago Manual of Style.
Anything in between would also be helpful!
Any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Amy
